A hand-held sprayer plumbed beside the toilet. Standard in Brazil, Portugal and much of Asia — proof that the habit is cultural, not technical.

1980
Warm-water jet, heated seat and drying integrated into the fixture. Japan normalised it in one generation; installation and price keep it there.
